Symptoms of not working with a mindset for success might include feeling a need to prove you are right, or that the way you do things now is the best way. Or telling yourself that you aren’t good enough to have whatever goal you had in mind. Another might be consistently finding someone or something to blame for a poor result. That can also include not having the right training or not being exposed to the right mentors. Another might be letting setbacks affect your self-confidence and stop you from continuing on.
Don’t those sound a bit like excuses? Don’t they sound a bit self-limiting?
Highly successful people think differently from that. If they want something big that they don’t have now – they own it! They make achieving it an important priority in their life. And they take control of their thinking and self-talk to stay focused on the results they want, not the reasons (excuses) of why they don’t or can’t.
They take responsibility to find out what they need to do different to get that goal. Once they know that, then they do what it takes to learn how. If they already knew how to have that goal – it would be a to-do item and not a goal.
They might need to find new mentors. Read new books. Hang out with people that they can learn from – which includes books, videos, podcasts, conferences, workshops, and all the other ways to learn and absorb what they need to become the person that has what they want.
So, just an idea; make a learning plan. Then, as you start to learn new skills, make a “doing plan”. Try some of the things you learned. Results from trial and error are one of the most effective teachers. Trying things in small ways in the beginning is often less risky. Try them in different ways until you can make them work for you. And then, once you have confidence in a particular strategy, do it again at a bigger scale.
And those setbacks? …Turn them into motivation to figure out how to do it better. Then do it! And keep doing it. And keep looking for better ways after that.
What is the worst that could happen? You might get what you want? And even better would be to have fun doing it! Best of success!
