One key ingredient for a profitable, growing business is a steady and consistent flow of repeat business.
The factor that makes repeat business more profitable is that your business has already “bought” that customer – meaning the investment in marketing and selling has already been made. Now there just needs to be 2 major objectives;
It is easy to say you do quality, but how do you make sure that is what they get? And how many of your competitors say the same thing? Did you ever see anyone say they provide poor service in their website?
How do you buy things yourself? Do you go to the internet and look up reviews? Most people do. Especially if the product or service requires a significant investment. They may even do a lot of additional research on-line to see all the problems and issues that can go with that type of product or service.
So how do you make sure your customers are truly happy? Happy enough to come back over and over? Maybe even refer you to others? Could you monitor your reviews? And then use the comments as feedback to adjust your practices?
Then how do you make sure you achieve those adjustments – consistently?
A short answer is to establish fixed processes and systems for everything you do.
If you work alone, or have a very small team, good checklists can be a great start. The more detailed, the better. With pictures and short videos is even better. Did you ever forget to pick something up at the grocery store – the same can happen in your business.
If you have a team, or plan to have a team, more investment of your time will pay off later. Turn those checklists into flow charts, with details about what tools will be requires along the process. Again, the more detailed the better. Performance standards, and Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) go with them. As you get to a larger team, clearly defined roles & responsibilities that tie to the steps in the flow charts can add real control to the process. All of that makes it a lot more effective to train new people and hold them accountable for getting the right activities done – effectively. At the right time.
